Legal appeal filed with Nevada Supreme Court on WC1 Sales Tax Increase

Reno, NV - Jeffrey Church has filed an appeal with the Nevada Supreme Court challenging Washoe County’s admitted violations of law regarding the WC1 Sales Tax ballot measure.

A copy of the filing is available on request. If successful the case would be remanded back to the Washoe District Court for review.

Church also anticipates additional litigation over the overall legality aspects of WC1. The current appeal is narrowly focused on the ballot measure and committees that drafted the arguments. Future litigation would address many issues with the measure and/or the Washoe County School District’s actions.

Recent media reports indicated a $40 million school district shortfall and possibility of teacher layoffs and/or leaving positions vacant, increasing class size. Many WC1 supporters felt deceived and mislead by the school district. We believe that major changes are needed in the school administration and an outside audit and investigation into possible waste, fraud and abuse is called for. We note the high salary of over $207,000 for the CFO and about $57,000 in pay increases for him since 2012 while the board was apparently unaware of the depth of the budget issue.
